Global nonprofit signs on at STRO's Union warehouse
Rise Against Hunger, a nonprofit international relief organization, signed a lease for a new Union location.
According to The STRO Cos., which announced the transaction May 8, the 11,500-square-foot building at 60 Milltown Road is located off Route 22 and near Interstate 78 and the Garden State Parkway.
Cushman & Wakefield Senior Director Tim Farley represented Rise Against Hunger while The STRO Cos., was represented by Joel Tomlinson of Liberty Corner-based Silbert Realty and Management Co.
“We are pleased to welcome Rise Against Hunger to our building and look forward to a long-term relationship with their organization” said Elliot Ferris, STRO’s director of leasing, in a statement. “The location was ideal for them to expand their operation and continue providing global hunger relief. This was a transaction we are proud to have been involved with.”
On its website, Rise Against Hunger says its work starts with a meal. The organization targets last-mile communities within hunger pockets that are characterized as “serious” or higher on the Global Index Scale. Working with local partners, the group promotes development led by locals to help provide meals through schools to promote attendance and education. Its work to help alleviate hunger also includes providing crisis relief for natural disasters or other incidents and helping to establish locally led agriculture and income-generating programs.
“To address immediate nutritional needs of people facing hunger globally, businesses, churches, civic organizations and other groups join us in packaging nutritious meals that are then shipped around the world,” explained Rise Against Hunger’s director of global operations Mickey Horner in a prepared statement. “This new warehouse location leased from STRO Cos. will be crucial to this work by enabling us to safely store our supplies and meals as well as be a central hub to ensure we can effectively and efficiently reach groups packaging with us in the New York Metro Area.”
According to Farley, Cushman & Wakefield has managed Rise Against Hunger’s portfolio for nearly 15 years. The firm is “proud to partner with Rise Against Hunger in their efforts to end hunger in our lifetime,” Farley said.
Tomlinson echoed that sentiment.
“Rise Against Hunger is an important nonprofit organization and at Silbert Realty & Mgt. Co. we are proud to be involved in this transaction and wish continued success to Rise Against Hunger in addressing global hunger within its new location,” he said.
Ridgewood-based STRO Cos. said it is maintaining its growth plan and looking to expand its portfolio. According to its website, the collection currently includes 39 properties across the Garden State.
“We are eager to continue purchasing more industrial warehouses in Northern New Jersey and Florida,” Ferris said. “We have a considerable amount of capital to deploy and are interested in either core+, value-add, or opportunistic acquisitions.”
